While it took me some time to figure out my Pentax's limitations, once I figured out, the flash worked like a charm. It's gonna serve me well for the event I had to purchase it for, but at that price point, I even had enough left over to take a course & find out all I've been missing out on not using an external flash.
I originally bought a single X60M just to try it out. Compared to name-brand speed lights, it seemed like a great buy, especially for someone who used manual flash only. After trying the first one out, I went back and bought 2 more. They fire consistently with the XTN trigger I also bought, and, once I sorted out the settings (not the most intuitive interface at first glance, but you get the hang of it and they are fine…download the manual). The build quality is just fine for anything that doesn’t involved hanging off the side of a cliff in gale force winds, and I’ve had no issues with them at all. Highly recommended for quick, affordable manual portability.
This is my second speed lite - to go with my Sony HVL-F43M speed lite. The Strobepro unit is more powerful, and works every time. It also has a built in optical trigger (something the much more expensive Sony unit doesn't have), and I will use the Strobepro unit to light the background and have the Sony unit on camera to light the subject. If I am working with just one flash, it is this one! With the radio trigger, I can work much faster when I don't have to run around so much to adjust each flash. This unit is highly recommended!
Ten plus year professional photographer, I had no idea this place even existed. Have spent hundreds on branded speedlights during my career, all of which required radio slaves to work off camera, and aside from ttl, were just basic units in my kit. I shoot a lot of location portraiture, bringing out alienbees everywhere I go. Went in a couple weeks back to find their X60 manual unit on sale for $125...and I was impressed. But then when I started seeing it's abilities, from built in radio slave units to high speed sync up to 1/8000 of a second, I was sold. Bought two, shot an indoor rodeo and was able to make some super dramatically lit shots, so I was in the following week for two more. If you are looking for ease of use, professional units on a budget, this is exactly what you need.
