    Optical snoot review

I absolutely love this system. It is super easy to use and the accessory pieces are great additions to create creative light shaping set ups. The best part is the customer service. I made an order and the company reached out to make sure I had additional pieces for my equipment. Had they not done this I wouldn't have been able to use it and would have been frustrated with my purchase. This type of customer service is no longer the norm but I appreciate the customer education and follow up to be sure I fully understood what I was purchasing.

Strobepro Framing Shutters for Optical Snoot II

It does as expected but is hard to insert and adjust. I'm sure it will get easier over time.

    Must Have

The framing shutters are a must have addition as part of your optical snoot tool kit. They’re incredibly flexible and very versatile. I often use two optical snoots in doing portraiture, using one snoot with a gobo for an interesting background and using the framing shutters on the optical snoot that I’m using as my key light on my subject. If you like low key images, chiaroscuro lighting, or a film noir ambience, or if you’re paying homage to George Hurrell and the golden age of Hollywood portraits, you simply can’t beat a framing shutter.

    DIY hack to optimize product

This is essential for the optical snoot 2! My only complaint is that in order to fit it in the snoot, the arms were made short. Thus making it hard to adjust once inside the snoot. To remedy this, I purchased 18 gauge aluminum wire at the hardware store, and and extended the arms by running the wire thru the little holes at the end. Then when inserting the shutters, you just need to push the bottom 2 shutters together (to make them skinnier) and, then push them back after it's inserted. This way you can adjust them without having to put your fingers close to, or inside the snoot.

I have the Strobepro Optical Snoot II and am curious about the treads that are used to attach the lens. Are these compatible with any other lenses and where could I find those. I believe the lens included is a 50mm, but I would love to explore some longer focal lengths, say 85mm or 105mm. Any assistance or advice you can provide would be appreciated.

I don't think any other lens will screw in directly. The easiest option would be to find some old manual Canon or Nikon lenses and just use the adapter that we sell for the Optical Snoot II.That will be much easier than matching direct threads that most lenses do not have. Thanks

Will the iris and the framing shutter work OK with the older version of the optical snoot? Also, is there a way to retrofit the stropepro lens onto the first version? Thanks,Michael Moore

    Strobepro Studio Lighting

Hi, Unfortunately they will not fit the old version. There is also no way to modify it to fit the lens.<br/>Thanks
