    Strobepro Rapid V-Flat

    54 reviews

    A Transportable Solution

Traditional V-flats are fragile and unwieldy—not exactly qualities you're looking for on a road trip. The Strobepro Rapid V-Flat will become your new favourite travel companion, setting up or packing down into its convenient carry bag in minutes.

    Bounce or Negative Fill

The included fabric is black on one side, and reflective white on the other. Simply flip your assembled V-flat panels around to change their function. Use them for bounce, negative fill, or as go-betweens. Once you start using V-flats you'll wonder how you ever went without them!

    Excellent Value

Cost is usually what causes photographers to resort to DIY foam core over purpose-built V-flats. Our V-Flats come in at an aggressive price-point and with additional features not found on competing products. Strobepro wants to democratize these amazing tools!

Like all V-flats, the Strobepro Rapid V-flat can stand up using the fold between the two panels as its base. Unique to the Rapid V-flat, its included feet allow each half to stand on its own. Separate your panels without the need for clamps and extra rigging to hold them in position, or swing your panels all the way open for maximum surface area.

    Extra Height

At 2.4 m (almost 8 feet), these V-flats are taller than the competition while still fitting under standard 8-foot ceilings. You'll really appreciate that extra bit of verticality when shooting taller subjects.

    Optional Diffusion Fabric

Want to use your new V-flat frame as a translucent scrim? It'd seem a waste not to offer that option. The material provides 1/4 stop diffusion. Select the optional diffusion fabric from the dropdown menu for a modest extra cost or buy it at a later time here.

Please note that we have updated the Black/White fabric so it no longer has the bungee toggles.  Feedback from customers was that they were a little annoying to deal with.  Instead we've woven a rigid polymer into the corners for ease of use.  The new version also uses foam corners to make securing the fabric easier.  If you have the original version and you're struggling to install the fabric by yourself, take a look at this quick video for a quick modification you can do.

Best solution for traveling I have found

These v-flats are great for my travel kit. They break down small and I like that they are larger when set up than the typical foam core. There are a few drawbacks though, and this is why I still use the foam core flats in my studio - mainly they take longer to set up of course. I did have one of my 8 pairs come with a tube that had the end bent a little so I had to straighten it out by inserting a steel pipe in the end. Also the pinch locks can be a bear if you don’t have strong hands. My assistant really struggles with unlocking them. They also don’t stand perfectly straight and can look a little wonky but it doesn’t affect the bounce or diffusion of course. These are minor tradeoffs for the vastly superior portability. The shoot through fabric also allowed me to omit soft boxes from my kit. I have 4 pairs of these and they have been all over the world with me now. Much cheaper than the film industry brand. Also light enough to fly overhead on a pair of c-stands as a super clamp fits the tube perfectly.

    Super useful!

Easy to assemble and used them right away on a portrait shoot with the legs in place. You don’t need two panels joined together, so saves floor space and gives positive or negative fill from both sides. Really like having two traditional v flats. Love them!

    So far, so good

Over the last few months, I've been trying to decide whether to make my own v-flats or purchase a set. When I came across Strobepro's v-flats, I was intrigued, particularly at how they fold down compared to keeping a rigid board in storage, even if it folded in half. After measuring my ceilings, I ended up going with the Strobepro Rapid V-Flat because the cost was similar to making my own but with the added durability of the frame (vs tape) and how they store. My only concern was how many panels come in each kit based on how Strobepro responded to questions about this on the product page. Despite what the "included" info says (2x frames, 4x feet, 2x fabric), they made it sound like each kit comes with a single panel (i.e. I'd need to buy two kits to make a complete 'v'). So, I chanced it and bought two kits, unsure what would actually be in each kit. To my relief, I can confirm that each base kit makes a complete 'v.' So about usability: These aren't hard to setup but require a bit of space depending on how you put the fabric on. I work alone so being able to have these stand on their own where attached as one 'v' or detached and working as single panels is great! These definitely feel like they save more space this way and there's no need for an assistant. Because I'll end up using them irregularly, storing them will be easy and I won't need to leave them out or worry about dragging them through long, narrow corridors. Due to the nature of the fabric, if you plan to use these as stand-in for a backdrop, you will need to steam these or light them in such a way that the creases won't show. There may also be a slight gap where the panels join so that might be something to think about. So far, I like them and I hope they hold up. I do wish the bags had a pocket to stow the brackets because I am worried they'll get lost. I also adjusted the mounting on the feet so the frame comes under the feet instead of resting on top of them (someone else mentioned doing this in their review due to ceiling height). This makes it more comfortable for me to move them around because my ceilings are maybe just 8' high. I think in the future, it would be cool to see an adjustable height version, even between 6-8' for flexibility.
